New Hungarian Government Reinstates Ban on Ukrainian Food Imports

On May 21, the Hungarian government of Péter Magyar (Tisza Party) reinstated its ban on about 20 categories of Ukrainian products, including barley, beef, corn, eggs, flour, pork, poultry, sunflower seeds, and most likely, honey, reported Euractiv.

“Hungary’s unilateral ban was introduced under a raft of ‘emergency laws’ by Orbán’s government, which expired on 14 May. The new parliament had to review nearly 1,000 decrees to prevent them from lapsing…and the import ban was accidentally ‘not taken into account’, according to an anonymous government spokesman who spoke with Euractiv.
