Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has given the CIA a 24-hour deadline to hand over 40 boxes of JFK and MKUltra files that they have kept away from the Congress. Luna is the chairperson of the House Oversight Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.
Earlier in the day, a CIA whistleblower, James Erdman III, who served on Tulsi Gabbard’s Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) (March 2025 to April 2026), told the Senate Homeland Security Committee that the CIA had taken back “40 boxes of JFK files and MKUltra files being processed for declassification by DNI Gabbard,” and that their seizure of those boxes was part of “documented efforts to circumvent oversight.” Apparently, the documents were taken during the 2025 government shutdown.
A CIA spokesperson posted on X afterwards a bureaucratic response: “The Committee acted in bad faith by subpoenaing an Agency officer for testimony today without notifying CIA, despite having already obtained closed-door testimony from the individual previously. The witness testifying today is not appearing as a whistleblower in pursuit of the truth, but instead in response to the subpoena issued by Chairman Paul. This proceeding amounts to nothing more than dishonest political theater masquerading as a congressional hearing.”
Luna posted on X yesterday afternoon: “The CIA has 24 hours to return the documents to Tulsi Gabbard’s office or else I will make a motion to issue a subpoena. These documents have been requested by Congress.” She said that the agency is “actively undermining” Trump’s executive order on declassification.
