Russia began its two-day ceasefire after midnight Friday morning, in honor of the defeat of the Nazis in World War II. At the time of this report, Moscow’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, as reported by TASS, stated that Ukraine made an unusually heavy assault upon Moscow, firing 61 drones upon the Russian capital on Thursday, May 7, and eight more after midnight on Friday morning.
Earlier on Thursday, Russia’s Ministry of Defense released an updated version of its May 4 announcement of the ceasefire and related warnings. It repeated that President Putin had ordered the two-day ceasefire, and elaborated:
“During the specified period, all groups of Russian troops in the special military operation zone will completely cease combat operations. At the same time, strikes by missile forces and artillery, high-precision long-range weapons of sea and air origin, and strike unmanned aerial vehicles against the deployment sites of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and infrastructure facilities associated with the military-industrial complex and armed forces deep within the territory of Ukraine will cease. We call on the Ukrainian side to follow this example.”
