Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), at the opening of the International Security Forum in the Moscow Region on May 28, alarmed the participants, by saying, according to some reports, that a planetary war may have “already begun.” Naryshkin affirmed, “Expert circles are seriously discussing the precise point at which a new planetary war will begin, or has already begun, and whether humanity has a chance of surviving it.”

He stressed that “the drums of war are sounding particularly loudly on the European continent,” RIA Novosti [reported on May 28]( https://ria.ru/20260528/naryshkin-2095222479.html).

Having previously recalled that Germany lifted federal debt restrictions to finance defense and infrastructure spending last March, he referred to Germany’s headlong drive into a rearmament program and building Europe’s “largest army.” A program called “Responsibility for Europe,” to increase the size of the German army to 460,000 personnel, has also been launched.
