According to official statistics by Destatis, new orders for German industry dropped by 3.8 percent between March and April. Particularly dramatic was the situation in the automotive industry: Seasonally and calendar-adjusted order intake fell by 5.3% compared to the previous month.
The decline was even more pronounced in the manufacture of electrical equipment, for which new orders were 16.3% below the previous month’s figure. Machine building also contributed negatively to the overall result: in this key sector of the manufacturing industry, order intake fell by 7.4%.
