According to the Financial Times, France and Germany want to reduce the powers of EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. The reason adduced, say diplomatic sources quoted by the FT, is to have the EU respond better to crises. The idea is to strip the EAAS (External Action Service) of some powers and give them back to the Commission. Apparently, Kallas’ rabid Russophobia has become too much for Paris and Berlin.
Kallas reacted to the FT article by writing to the Commission that a debate on the powers of the EAAS is welcome.
