Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, during his regular Monday press briefing, confirmed that a memorandum of understanding has been finalized between Iran and the United States aimed at ending “the imposed war by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran on all fronts, including Lebanon.”

“In the past 24 hours, we have witnessed major developments; the finalization of this understanding is a very significant breakthrough,” he said, reported IRNA. “This achievement is the result of the legendary resistance of the Iranian people against the aggression and criminality of two evil actors equipped with all material means.”

Asked about Iran’s view of Israel’s latest strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs and whether the attack was linked to the emerging understanding between Tehran and Washington, Baghaei said Israel had committed another crime just as efforts to reach an agreement were reaching a critical stage. He said that decisions on any future developments would be made based on “a precise and comprehensive assessment of Iran’s supreme interests,” adding that the Israeli attack had ultimately become “an opportunity to maximize the national interests of Iran, Lebanon and the resistance front.”

“History will show that the Islamic Republic of Iran and its friends did not allow this malicious act by the Zionist regime to distract us from securing the supreme interests of Iran and Lebanon,” he said, adding that the incident had strengthened unity and resilience within the resistance front against Israel.
