Lavrov Backs Belarus, Says Washington Has Abandoned the Anchorage Path

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov used a June 23 ambassadors’ roundtable of the Diplomatic Academy—"The Ukrainian Crisis: The West’s True Goals and Role,” attended by some 90 ambassadors of the Global South—to respond to Ukrainian threats against Belarus and to speak against a shift in U.S. policy. He opened with strong support for Belarus and gave the floor to the Belarusian ambassador, reminding listeners that Russia and Belarus have a full mutual-security agreement under which an attack on one is treated as an attack on both.
