Magyar May Be More Pro-EU, but Not More Pro-Ukraine

New Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar is meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin today, but it is not to be expected that his pro-EU views imply his support for the latter’s Ukraine policy. Magyar is putting the brakes on this, as his predecessor Viktor Orban did. He says he will not give the green light to start EU accession talks until the Hungarian minority in Ukraine receives better protection for its schools and language. And he stands by his position that Hungary will continue to refrain from supplying weapons.
