Speaking ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which ran from June 25-26 in Gdańsk, Poland, a senior U.S. official has echoed the war propaganda that Ukraine has turned the tide in the war. Jeremy Lewin, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs and Religious Freedom, who is currently serving as the Undersecretary of State, said: “Right now, we are in a position where Ukraine is winning the war at this moment,” reported UATV.
“Previously, Ukrainian forces would wait for winter because Russian offensives would pause. Now we are seeing the opposite situation—Ukrainians are on the offensive, while Russians are waiting for winter. Even during the winter, Ukrainians managed to change the dynamics by striking Russian infrastructure on Russian territory,” he said.
Lewin claimed that the administration is considering ending an existing sanctions waiver on Russian oil in this regard, but did not give any more specifics regarding actions it would take. “This is a very important moment. Ukraine can continue to exert pressure on the battlefield,” he added.
