CDU Calls on Baerbock to Testify on Germany's Disgraceful Failure at the UN

CDU/CSU lawmakers want former Foreign Minister and current President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock to come before the Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee as Berlin absorbs its first UN Security Council defeat since reunification. As The Eastern Herald reported it, “The humiliation was complete before the vote count finished. Germany, which had campaigned for years to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, walked away from the UN General Assembly on Wednesday with 104 votes—23 short of the two-thirds majority it needed, beaten by both Austria and Portugal. The question that consumed Berlin in the days that followed was not what went wrong, but who was responsible.”

Stefan Mayer, a CSU foreign policy lawmaker, told German tabloid Bild that since Baerbock ran Germany’s Foreign Ministry from December 2021 to May 2025, “the period in which the diplomatic groundwork for the Security Council candidacy was either built or left unbuilt…she has answers to give.”

Of course, neither Bild nor Stefan Mayer mentioned the obvious reality, stated repeatedly by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, that the loss was due to the Germany government’s self evident collapse, economically, morally, and even culturally, from its former esteemed position. “The de facto unconditional support for Israel’s actions in Gaza—for which the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant—has damaged Germany’s reputation,” Zepp-LaRouche wrote in a recent press release, “and this damage will continue to grow as long as the governments in Berlin maintain their position.”
