There was another skirmish in the Strait of Hormuz last night, the fourth U.S.-Iran clash in about ten days. This one was apparently more extensive than the previous three of last week, and characterized by claims and counter-claims. It began when US forces attacked and disabled a ship called the M/T Lexie, an unladen tanker that U.S. Central Command said was heading towards Iran’s Kharg Island.

Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at the Ali Salem air base in Kuwait and also at US 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. Centcom responded by attacking targets on Qshem Island. “We warned previously that in the event of aggression, the response would be different and harsher, and we have acted accordingly,” the IRGC said in a statement. “These responses should serve as a lesson.”
