Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spent much of July 9 on the phone with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Oman and with Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Iranian readouts don’t say much but the calls came in the aftermath of the U.S. escalation over the Strait of Hormuz.
During the call with Munir, Araghchi strongly condemned the US’s aggressive attacks on various parts of Iran, saying they amounted to a clear violation of the UN Charter and the MoU that stipulated an end to the war on all fronts, reported IRNA. He also characterized the recent rhetoric and admissions by US officials regarding their non-adherence to the Islamabad memorandum as a clear indication of a breach of promise and the continuation of Washington’s warmongering policies.
Araghchi underlined, however, that the Iranian nation and “the valiant Armed Forces” remained firm in responding to any aggression and defending the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security.
