In a July 24 posting on X responding to new U.S. sanctions, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla wrote that “Every act of aggression by the U.S. government, such as the measures announced on July 23 by the Secretary of State, demonstrates that the goal is to impose collective punishment against the entire Cuban people. Despite the fact that the U.S. government continues to deny the existence of the economic blockade against Cuba, it is becoming increasingly difficult for it to hide its genocidal intentions and its intent to provoke a humanitarian crisis.”
As for the attack on Cuba’s overseas medical missions, Rodríguez denounced the inclusion in sanctions of the entities which oversee the deployment of doctors abroad, CSMC and UCCM ([see separate item]()). “The attack on Cuban medical cooperation is tantamount to an assault on the human right to access health services for hundreds of thousands of people in many parts of the world,” he said. “They punish Cuba for providing a humane and solidarity service that has been recognized by the international community. It is done by the government of the richest country in the world, bent on denying that basic human right to tens of millions of its own citizens.”
