For the first time in nearly 20 years, the president of Lebanon is visiting Washington, and will meet with President Donald Trump and other senior officials over the coming week, reported the major news agencies (AP, Reuters, etc.).
The last Lebanese presidential visit to Washington came in 2009, when Michel Suleiman met President Barack Obama. This week, President Joseph Aoun is traveling at President Trump’s invitation and is expected to discuss ways to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Al Jazeera reported. Talks are set to focus on withdrawing Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, enforcing a cease-fire, and restoring regional stability, though it remains doubtful whether the White House or President Aoun will place much blame the Israeli factor of instability.
