Peskov Warns Baltic Nations About Hosting Nuclear Weapons

In comments to the press today reported by TASS, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned the Baltic nations about following Finland’s decision to host NATO nuclear weapons on their territory. Peskov was replying to a question about a vote by the parliament of Lithuania that advanced legislation to lift that country’s constitutional ban on stationing nuclear weapons on its territory. He said this information was new to him, but “We know that a similar decision has been made in Finland. The Baltic states are sure to try to keep up with Finland and do the same.” Peskov said this would not make those nations safer: “On the contrary, it will significantly increase the level of danger for them because countermeasures will be taken against these countries so that we can ensure our interests.”

Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev had previously issued a stark warning to Finland.
