After two years of controversy, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, a British lawyer, was formally voted out of office by the member nations. Khan was the prosecutor who got arrest warrants against Vladimir Putin (for supposedly “kidnapping” children in Ukraine who the Russians had saved from war zones and agreed to return to their parents) and against Bibi Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for the blatant human rights crimes against Palestinians.
The charge against Khan was that he had pressured a female aid to have sex, which he has denied. The ICC has no enforcement capacity, although member countries are called on to detain those under arrest if they are in that jurisdiction (this is being debated now in light of Netanyahu’s visit to the U.S. this coming week). Khan was suspended last month, but officially removed by the vote on Friday, with 82 of the 125 member states voting to remove him.
