The National Science Foundation(NSF) of the United States has issued a ban preventing any scientist or association which it funds, from working with Chinese scientists or their institutions, according to Science.org. The new policy is based on lists containing the names of hundreds of leading Chinese universities, national laboratories, and other research institutions, with which the NSF must not fund any American scientist’s collaboration. The lists contain the names of hundreds of leading Chinese universities, national laboratories, and other research institutions.
“The new policy abandons NSF’s earlier attempt to balance the potential risks and benefits of such collaborations” according to the site. “But it puts the agency in step with actions taken earlier this year by the much larger Department of Defense (DOD) and with Congressional Republicans [students of science, all, of course—ed.], who assert that any interactions with China threaten national security.”
