It is not only 350,000 Haitian immigrants to America who have now begun to be expelled from the country, but immigrants from 12 other nations as well, all of whom have been stripped of their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) by an executive order upheld by the Supreme Court. These are immigrants from Haiti, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Nepal, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, South Sudan, Burma, Somalia, and Ethiopia. Haitians are the most numerous, and the most prominent in home care, healthcare and elder care employment around the country, but there are also 12,000 Afghans, many of them forced to leave Afghanistan after 20 years of U.S./NATO forces’ war there, and many also since employed as healthcare professionals. The total of persons affected by Trump’s termination of the entire TPS program, is over one million.
There is no meaningful prospect of legal delays, the Supreme Court having ruled that Trump’s order is not subject to appeal.
