Another target listed on Ukraine’s Myrotvorets hit list was “liquidated” in an assassination by a planted bomb. Robert Shageyev, the commander of Crimea’s submarine, the Zaporizhzhia, died in an explosion yesterday in Crimea’s largest city, Sevastopol. The bomb was placed near a stairwell that Shageyev used. Russia’s Federal Security Service announced the detention of a woman suspect, who apparently set off the bomb remotely. Sevastopol’s governor, Mikhail Razvozhayev, posted on Telegram that she had been acting “on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence agencies.”
Shageyev was a former Ukrainian naval officer who, after the February, 2014 coup in Kiev, and after the March, 2014 referendum in Crimea, decided to join the Russian Federation,and turned over his submarine to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. It was not an exception to the rule as, at the time, 12 of Crimea’s 17 warships were turned over to Russia.
