Thaddeus McCotter, a former (2003-2012) pre-MAGA right-wing Republican Congressman from Michigan and regular contributor to the pro-Trump American Greatness site, has nonetheless produced a thought-provoking article hypothesizing a merger of the anti-Trump MAGA forces with the anti-establishment (anti-DNC) faction of the Democratic electorate, those now gathering under the “socialist” DSA banner.
After outlining the obvious differences, McCotter writes that “between the respective movements [exists] a narrow window of opportunity for a public policy convergence, most notably in enacting and implementing aggressive antitrust legislation, eliminating corporate subsidies, and imposing protective tariffs to stop outsourcing and promote domestic production.” He summarizes by saying, “A victory by one or both of these populist movements, ... and/or a convergence of them on key issues is the stuff of nightmares for the entrenched moneyed interests.”
