Chinese President Xi Jinping will make an official visit to Egypt in the coming days for talks with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian presidency said](https://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/1234/575309/Egypt/Foreign-Affairs/China;s-Xi-to-visit-Egypt-for-talks-with-ElSisi-Pr.aspx) on August 26. The trip will occur as the two countries mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. According to the statement, Xi and El-Sisi will discuss “ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries across various fields of mutual interest,” and exchange views on “several regional and international issues.”
El-Sisi extended an invitation to Xi to visit Egypt during his official visit to Beijing in May 2024. The two countries have had a comprehensive Strategic Partnership since 2014, and in July, their foreign ministers discussed Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, the Horn of Africa, and cooperation in international forums while marking 70 years of ties.
Relations between Egypt and China are at a high. Earlier in August, Egyptian companies signed 17 export contracts worth about $168 million with Chinese buyers, covering agricultural products, textiles, minerals, and engineering goods. Both countries are also members of the BRICS.
This week the two countries are holding the joint air exercise Eagles of Civilization 2026 , involving several types of multi-role fighter jets at Egyptian air bases, and including joint sorties and training in planning and managing aerial combat operations. Begun on August 22, the exercise sees the deployment of an integrated and combat-ready Chinese air force outside Asia for the first time.
