President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, discussed the July 29 drone attack on a U.S.-owned gas storage vessel in the Egyptian port of Damietta during a phone call on July 30. El-Sisi “noted that the competent authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident, confirming the gravity of the escalation unfolding in the region,” the Egyptian readout reported. The President emphasized the necessity for Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to unite in order to halt this escalation.”
The two leaders “also focused on developments in the region,” the readout reported further. “President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region, which the Prime Minister of Spain deeply appreciated. The President and Prime Minister Sánchez emphasized the vital importance of the peaceful settlement of disputes so as to safeguard peace and security in the Middle East. In this context, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the necessity for the United Nations to assume its role in halting the ongoing war. He also underscored the urgency of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two state solution.”
