About 10 months after the Gaza “ceasefire,” 2 million civilians still live in tents and makeshift housing in unsanitary camps, but President Trump’s Board of Peace awarded its first construction contract. However, this contract does not address the suffering of the local population, but instead is a design for a small military outpost to accommodate the possible deployment of 150 Moroccan troops as part of the UN-authorized International Stabilization Force (ISF), according to London’s The Guardian.
This contract has not been finalized, but was already awarded to the Louisiana-based firm, Arkel International, which has a long history of doing construction work in support of U.S. geopolitical goals in Iraq and other such quasi-colonies. This small military installation would measure 100 meters by 120 meters and is termed “rudimentary” with portable chemical toilets, a hand washing station, and tents and cots for sleeping. The design includes a “quick extraction route,” which suggests that the Board of Peace has little faith in their plan for peace.
