India’s National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval was in Beijing August 24-25 to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for the 25th Round of “Talks on the India-China Boundary Question.” The press statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) at their conclusion makes clear the progress made in implementing the important consensus reached between their leaders in Kazan, Russia in October 2024 (on the sidelines of the BRICS summit) to normalize relations frozen after the border clashes of 2020. “Both sides expressed satisfaction at the steady resumption of people-to-people and cross-border exchanges, including the ongoing Kailash Manasarovar Yatra and Border Trade through the three designated border trading passes,” the MEA reported.
“Under the strategic guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, and in a constructive and forward-looking spirit, the two Special Representatives had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the India-China Boundary Question, and agreed to continue their work in seeking a political settlement of the boundary question in the context of their overall and long-term interests,” it specified.
Advancing overall normal relations requires maintaining peace along their long, partially disputed border. But more than border issues are involved in the series of regular talks between these two officials designated as their nation’s “Special Representatives” on their joint border. India’s PTI news agency described these meetings as “a unique, indeed, a very comprehensive mechanism to discuss the overall relations,” when it raised a question at today’s Chinese Foreign Ministry press briefing. Spokesman Lin Jian concurred, calling the talks “an important platform for communication on issues of mutual interest.”
Thus, the MEA reported that Wang and Doval had “also discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest,” and Doval had called on Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng during the visit.
Slowly and—much to the chagrin of the minions of the Anglo-American oligarchy—steadily, India and China are rebuilding a basis for mutual trust. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed their agreement to normalize relations when they met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in August 2025. China hosted that SCO summit, and it was Modi’s first visit to China in seven years. Now Xi is set to visit India for the first time in seven years, when he travels to New Delhi for the BRICS summit Sept. 12-13. British news agency Reuters reported on Monday that its sources say that President Xi may take as many as 400 officials in his delegation for that summit.
