Rally in Stockholm on Hiroshima Day Mobilized Antiwar Organizations In Election Time

12 speakers and 90 participants took part in the Hiroshima rally “DON’T FORGET HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI” on August 6, 2026, at Odenplan in Stockholm, organized by Humanity for Peace in Sweden. The meeting decided to send a petition to the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard demanding that Sweden take immediate action “AGAINST the deployment of nuclear weapons to Sweden and the Baltic Sea region and IN FAVOR of immediate peace talks with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine and with the entire BRICS group regarding the war in Iran.”

Occurring in the early phase of the election campaign for national and regional elections, the demonstration broke the taboo of openly addressing the war propaganda and war mobilization dominating the political atmosphere. Representatives of smaller antiwar parties stood up together with speakers from organizations against NATO, including the Schiller Institute in Sweden. Ulf Sandmark and Elias Dottemar of the Schiller Institute both spoke, with Sandmark giving the keynote address. In a special greeting, Colonel Douglas Macgregor addressed the rally in a recording organized by blogger Håkan Bergmark, a blogger who posts daily about world events in Swedish, frequently hosting international guests like Macgregor and Larry Johnson.
