The Aug. 5 incident involving a 25-cm big drone with a rudimentary explosive charge (unexploded) found at the Leipzig airport, in the vicinity of a Ukrainian Antonov, appears as appropriately timed to help German Interior Minister Dobrindt’s planned secret service reform, which will be on the agenda at the cabinet meeting on Aug. 12. So-called military experts insist that the only way to protect against such a “hybrid attack” is prevention, which is possible when more powers are given to the German agencies BfV and BND, as per Dobrindt’s proposal.
Meanwhile, media and warmongers have staged a campaign accusing Russia for the “hybrid attack,” with no evidence, so that the Russian embassy felt compelled to issue a strong statement, saying the following:
“The embassy expresses its concern over a new wave of anti-Russian hysteria in Germany. The latest escalation was triggered by an attack drone that was allegedly discovered by chance at Leipzig Airport on the night of August 5, 2026, and brought down by a bus driver (!). The drone is said to have been loaded with explosives, which allegedly failed to detonate—again, purely by chance—in the immediate vicinity of a Ukrainian transport aircraft. Thus, a whole chain of ‘lucky coincidences’ led to the prevention of casualties and ensured that the Ukrainian aircraft, which was transporting tons of European weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces, remained unscathed. At the same time, the public was presented with an example of a ‘hybrid attack’ on Germany, an anti-Russian campaign was ignited in the media, and an official investigation was launched on suspicion of a terrorist attack involving a ‘foreign state.’ The results of previous ‘investigations’ of this kind—and there have been quite a few—are well known: accusations against Russia, without even the slightest evidence being presented. This time, too, the most radical ‘hawks’ are already speaking of an act of war against Germany and NATO and are demanding that Berlin take appropriate countermeasures.
“It is obvious that this hastily cobbled-together provocation serves exclusively the interests of Kyiv and the militarist wing of the European political class. Ukraine is in desperate need of weapons, while the governments of unfriendly European states lack arguments for why, in the face of acute social and economic problems, unlimited financial resources should flow to a corrupt regime that does not shy away from terrorist methods and publicly promotes a neo-Nazi agenda, including the glorification of those who massacred civilians of various nationalities during World War II.
“For our part, we would like to add that the greatest danger to Germany today does not come from Moscow’s oft-invoked ‘hybrid attacks'—which do not exist—but from politicians who, with remarkable zeal, are devising scenarios for an imminent war with Russia and urging German citizens to participate in it.”
