Senator Elissa Slotkin's 'Protect Our Polling Places Act'

U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan) is leading a group of senators who seek to prevent President Trump from “weaponizing our military and armed federal officers to interfere in our elections.” On June 18 Slotkin introduced her S. 4845, the “Protect Our Polling Places Act”, which would stop any deployment of federal agents or soldiers at polling places on Election Day. The legislation would also require evidence that states were unable to administer elections for any attempt to federalize the election process. Senator Slotkin said that the president can only deploy federal forces for one reason under current law: “to repel armed enemies of the United States.” However, the bill is not expected to ever make it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill was cosponsored by Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona), Mark Kelly (D-Arizona), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), Alex Padilla (D-California), Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada), and Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia).
