German industry lost 144,100 jobs in one year, the Federal Statistical Office (SBA) reported. At the end of June, the manufacturing sector employed 5.29 million people, 144,100—or 2.7 percent—fewer than a year earlier."The automotive industry has been particularly hard hit,” the SBA announced today. There were 42,300 fewer employees in the sector than a year earlier. This corresponds to a decline of 5.8 percent.”

At 691,500, the number of employees in the automotive industry fell to another record low. The metalworkers union, IG Metall, has announced protest rallies nationwide on Sept. 21.
