The sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and their families continue to get insulted by President Trump and his administration. He claimed yesterday that he is not concerned about conditions aboard the ship despite all the evidence to the contrary. “No, they’re not,” Trump told reporters when asked about the news reports that have shed light on the deteriorating conditions on the Lincoln, reported The Hill. “That ship is moving right now, or very shortly and is being replaced with another very similar ship,” Trump added, confirming that the U.S. is sending a new aircraft carrier, the USS George Washington, to the Middle East to replace the Lincoln.
When asked if the ship’s deployment has gone on for too long, Trump said, “No. Not nearly long enough.”
Ann Wright, retired US Army colonel and anti-war activist, wrote in an article in Consortium News that it’s just the Lincoln that’s having problems. “Rotten food, overflowing toilets into bunking areas, no room in the incoming missile shelters, confiscated cellphones that are the notification devices for incoming missiles, infrequent mail, social media closed down: these were some of the issues that military families identified at the national conference of Veterans For Peace,” she reported. “Spouses and parents of Air Force, Army, Marine and Navy told of plummeting morale, lack of basic supplies and attacks on U.S. military bases that are not reported in the U.S. media.” She then went on to detail the concerns about conditions service members are facing across all the services at US bases throughout the Southwest Asia region.
