President Trump claimed on Wednesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has 57 nuclear warheads. “I know Kim Jong Un very well, and he’s going to be fine as long as we have a smart president,” Trump told reporters Wednesday, reported Reuters. “The fact that I get along with him—that’s a good thing, not a bad thing. He has 57 very powerful nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “They should have never allowed it. If I were president, I wouldn’t have allowed it. But he’s got them.”
Trump did not explain where he got the number 57 nor what exactly it meant but according to an analysis in the Korea Herald, South Korean estimates of North Korea’s nuclear weapons run much higher, from 80 to 150.
