President Trump announced Aug. 1 that “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to” with Iran. It is worth asking with whom the agreement was made.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not been seen or heard from in roughly five months. A July 27 report in The Times of London, devoted to the failure of the CIA and Mossad to locate him, states that he “appears not to have picked up a phone or opened a laptop for about 150 days,” that he is “somewhere in a deep shelter,” and that he does not emerge in daylight for fear of American satellites.
Rami Igra, a former Mossad division chief, told The Times that Iran’s leadership now moves messages by “multiple layers of couriers” who are “unaware of what they’re doing, other than taking messages from one person to the next,” and that “the only real way to get to Mojtaba is to recruit an agent who is in contact with him”—difficult, he said, because perhaps only two or three IRGC officers know how to reach him.
