Chinese President Xi Jinping, in Kyrgyzstan for the SCO meeting today and tomorrow, is also on a state visit with the Kyrgyz government of President Sadyr Japarov. President Japarov and his wife met Xi and his wife at the airport yesterday, amidst great ceremonial display.
The China-Kyrgyzstan cooperation has ushered in a “golden period” of rapid development, President Xi said as he landed in Bishkek. The guests of honor were greeted by komuz players (a traditional stringed instrument), dance groups, and figures garbed as members of the traditional hunting culture known as Salbuurun. The red carpet was lined with felt yurts, highlighting local customs in Kyrgyzstan.
