Burnham Pushes Ukraine Ceasefire in Phone Call with Trump

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham spoke to President Trump by phone on Monday, Labor Day in the United States, one day after Jonathon Powell, Burnham’s national security advisor, had led a European intervention in Kiev apparently aimed at scuttling any potential peace agreement that might emerge from the diplomacy of Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. “On Ukraine, the two leaders agreed on the need to continue working towards a ceasefire that prevented more loss of life,” the British readout reported. “The Prime Minister reiterated the UK’s support for Ukraine and for recent US-led peace negotiations.”

The “ceasefire” that Burnham and Trump supposedly agreed on is likely the 30-day plan crafted by Powell and acting President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in March of 2025, a plan that has been repeatedly rejected by Moscow.
