The President of China, Xi Jinping, is on an official visit to Cairo, where he has met with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, to discuss taking their strategic partnership to new heights. The two-day visit began on September 1 and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both countries are leading members of the BRICS.
During their meeting at Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, the two leaders agreed on Wednesday to launch the third phase of the expansion of their joint industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). This initiative opens a new phase of activity in key sectors, including renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, textiles, shipbuilding, and chemical fibers. Accompanied by their respective delegations, the leaders witnessed the signing of an agreement and several memoranda of understanding.
Speaking at the meeting, El-Sisi noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2014 has enabled both nations to play an active role in shaping international affairs amid significant and rapid changes in the global order. He added that both countries have demonstrated the political will to expand bilateral cooperation—particularly in localizing industry and transferring technology—and emphasized Egypt’s eagerness to continue working with China to achieve further fruitful results.
