Eastern Economic Forum Closes, Inking $80bn in Deals

Russia’s Eastern Economic Forum closed in Vladivostok on Sep. 4, with many agreements signed on the final day. Organizers said over 7,000 participants attended from 78 countries and territories.

The press service of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev reported a summary of the event: “A total of 328 agreements, contracts, memoranda, action plans, and roadmaps were signed during the forum. The cumulative value of the signed documents amounts to nearly 6 trillion 814 billion 693 million rubles,” the statement said.

Far East Development Minister Alexey Chekunkov said two Arctic agreements, each worth more than 1 trillion rubles, were signed, reported TASS. “I admit that I was initially skeptical,” he said, adding that he questioned both the development corporation and the investors before agreeing. Russian President Putin put cumulative investment in the Far East at about $287 billion over 11 years.
