In her “State of the European Union” address, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen asserted, “We need a mechanism analogous to Article 4 of the NATO Treaty,” the article on urgent consultations on how to respond to increasing tensions with Russia. She furthermore called for the creation of a European Security Council.
As for support for Ukraine, she assured it of continued EU assistance, calling for an increase of pressure on Russia, primarily through enforcement of the existing 20 packages of sanctions.
