There was an event this week, organized by Germany’s AfD at the EU Parliament, for which party co-chair Tino Chrupalla personally went to Strasbourg. Former (fired) Zelensky press spokeswoman Julia Mendel was invited to speak. The event was called “Dare to Make Peace—Diplomacy, Not Escalation.” The Times of London reported that they asked Mendel if she supported the AfD’s stand that all aid to Ukraine should be cut. Her response was, “I hope to influence the position of the AfD and I hope that they will find a way to end this war. You in the West often think that the war is a Hollywood movie and that we have unbreakable spirit. But this is ridiculous.”

Although the event was registered, EU parliament president Metsola denied, without any reasons, Mendel’s access to the parliament. This happened a few days after Zelensky had put sanctions on Mendel, and a few hours after EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had announced more weapons and money for Ukraine, and more sanctions against Russia. It is interesting to note that the AfD has active contact with the anti-Zelensky opposition. Then Mendel addressed the AfD meeting by video.
