Germany Begins Production of Long-Range Strike Drones for Ukraine

Germany is moving ever closer to war against Russia, with serial production now underway on German soil of drones designed to reach 1,500 kilometers inside Russia. The German business daily Handelsblatt reported Sep. 3 that production has begun on more than 5,000 medium- and long-range drones for Ukraine through a German-Ukrainian joint venture, according to the Kiev Independent. The €300 million ($349 million) order is due to be completed by mid-2027, and the first units have already been built.

The venture was established in February 2026 at the Munich Security Conference between Auterion, a German-Swiss-American defense software company with offices in Munich and Virginia, and the Ukrainian drone manufacturer Airlogix. Manufacturing is being expanded near Munich, with a further facility planned somewhere in eastern Germany.
