Articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were introduced in Congress today by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). Hegseth stands accused of violating the War Powers Resolution (WPR). Massie argued on the floor of the House that Hegseth participated in military operations against Iran without the congressional authorization required by federal law and the U.S. Constitution. He stated: “Peter Brian Hegseth warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office.”

Massie’s 34-page impeachment resolution was filed as a privileged resolution, allowing him to bypass the committee process and to force a vote on the matter. (He had used a similar method last year to force a vote on the release of the Epstein files.) The resolution includes eight counts, including Hegseth’s directing an unauthorized operation targeting Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, overseeing unlawful killings, violating the WPR in Yemen, and more.
