The first uncrewed test flight of India’s human spaceflight program is being readied for launch before the end of this year, Indian Space Research Organization chairman V. Narayanan has confirmed, with roughly 8,000 tests completed on mission systems.
Gaganyaan is to carry three Indian astronauts to low-Earth orbit for a three-day mission, following three planned uncrewed flights. Four Indian Air Force officers were named as candidates in February 2024, although which three will fly has not been announced. ISRO is working toward a crewed launch by March 2027.
