Munich-based lawyer Peter Gauweiler, senior troublemaker against establishment institutions, criticized the German Government’s blaming Russia for the alleged Aug. 4 drone incident at the Leipzig Airport. He noted that its decision to point fingers and sanction Russia is not compatible with the 1990 2-plus-4 Treaty and the reunification treaty, which is one of the preconditions for the Soviet Union’s approval of German unification: the “Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Partnership, and Cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.”

The treaty is still valid, Gauweiler notes, as it is in force for another five years and the German government has not cancelled it. The treaty states in Art. 7: “If a situation arises which, in the opinion of one party, constitutes a threat to peace or a violation of peace, or which may give rise to dangerous international complications, both parties shall immediately establish contact with one another and endeavor to coordinate their positions and reach agreement on measures suitable for improving or resolving the situation.”
