Iran has received the U.S. response to its offer on ending the war. Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented it at today’s Cabinet meeting, and that President Masoud Pezeshkian said, “We will make every effort to bring the agreement to fruition and will firmly stand up for the rights of the Iranian people. The agreement must now be based on a win-win strategy.” Araghchi’s offer, made in New York, is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week if the U.S. lifts its blockade of Iranian ports, releases frozen assets and waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales. Trump publicly called the terms “not acceptable,” but mediators, among them Qatar and Pakistan, have kept working. Meanwhile, on Sept. 29 Treasury announced new sanctions on networks it says supply Iran’s military, under its “Operation Economic Outcast.”
