Polish President Karol Nawrocki has said he hopes that plans for a permanent US military base in Poland will be finalized soon, adding that he would like the facility to be called “Fort Trump,” reported the Polish press agency PAP on Wednesday. In an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday, Nawrocki said he believed the establishment of the base was “only a question of time,” although administrative and financial issues still needed to be resolved.

Trump said last week that “major progress” was being made towards establishing a US Army base in Poland, crediting what he called the “bold leadership” of Nawrocki. “If this happens, the location will be announced very soon,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

At the same time, Lithuania is looking forward to the arrival of about 1,000 US troops, in the form of an armored battalion and a combat engineer battalion. They will be replacing an earlier deployment of 1,000 US troops that went home during the summer. “The preparation process and logistical arrangements are currently underway, and two battalions will arrive in Lithuania at the end of October,” Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said Wednesday.

Kaunas discussed the deployment with Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby during a visit to the Pentagon on Wednesday. The Lithuanian minister also proposed considering the possibility of establishing a permanent US military base in Lithuania, although he said no decisions had been made.
