Remember Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski’s infamous tweet, “Thank you, USA!,” when the Russian-German NordStream pipeline blew up? Whose American journalist wife, Anne Applebaum, was exposed as a key part of British military intelligence’s so-called Integrity Initiative?

On Sept. 3, that same Sikorski, with his French and German counterparts by his side after their meeting in Weimar, Germany, called for nearly 1,000 Russian diplomats to be kicked out of the European Union, a cap put on the number of Russian diplomats allowed into the EU, and restrictions imposed on the freedom of movement of both the remaining diplomats and all Russian citizens entering the EU. The pretext? The Leipzig drone supposedly placed by Russia.

“We still have far too many Russian diplomats throughout the European Union. We estimate there are over 2,000, and we estimate that at least 40 percent of them are performing tasks that are inconsistent with their diplomatic status,” Sikorski ranted. “They work for agencies that also carry out terrorist activities in our countries. Therefore, in solidarity with Germany, we should implement all the necessary safeguards for our population.” Russia, he pronounced, is “trying to destroy the EU from within.”
