The hysterical refusal by CDU, SPD, Greens, and Linke to talk to the right-wing election winner, AfD, at all, has moved the more left-wing BSW into the position of the kingmaker of an AfD minority government in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Either the BSW, with its five seats, provides the AfD (39 seats) against the said four (39 seats) with the absolute majority of 44 in the first or second round of voting, or it abstains in the third round, in which only a simple majority is required. Since abstentions are not counted, this would lower the countable votes from 83 to 78, so that one crossover vote from, most likely, the CDU would suffice to defeat the opposition. If that failed, early elections would come on the agenda. In the next few days, the AfD and BSW will meet and see what options there are.
