Helga Zepp-LaRouche, president of the Schiller Institute-Germany, participated this past week in the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, a platform for international, expert dialogue on defense and security. More than 1,000 participants attended the packed three-day conference Sept. 15-17. Zepp-LaRouche gave a presentation at the session, “Global Security Governance and China’s Role,” which will be available soon.

The Beijing Xiangshan Forum was founded 20 years ago, originally addressing mostly Asia-Pacific concerns. The Forum has evolved so that today it is global in scope and held in high regard internationally, in the way of the original mandate of the Munich Security Forum. The official theme of this year’s Beijing Xiangshan Forum: “Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together.”

The attendees included a large representation from Africa along with participants from around the world, covering many areas of expertise, from military, to economics, to culture—all having to do with security and stability, now and in the future. There was a notable atmosphere of friendship. An exception to this came from a member of the European Union delegation, whose attitude was, “We keep control of the world.” He reportedly came across in discussion as “insanity in action.”
