President Trump is now coming under attack by his Democratic opponents for being too friendly with China. At a Sep. 23 press conference with Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Andy Kim and Elissa Slotkin, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “Trump is the very first president who has negotiated away our export controls, our national security, to the Chinese.... Put simply, Trump is handing China the technology it needs to win the AI race.”

Sen. Slotkin, a former CIA analyst, called the visit of President Xi Jinping “a really big deal,” in a negative way. She went on: “To watch the president roll out the red carpet, fall over himself, in order to welcome President Xi Jinping to the White House is really difficult.” She laid out three demands: keep Chinese vehicles out of the U.S.; halt high-tech chip exports; and stop Chinese companies from sharing information with Iran.
