The Ukraine Defense Contact Group met via videoteleconference today, cohosted by UK Defense Minister Wes Streeting and his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, where they promised hundreds of millions of dollars of new armaments and other military support. Also in attendance were NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US Undersecretary of Defense Elbridge Colby.
Streeting came in with a pledge to supply air defence interceptors, large-caliber artillery rounds and drones “to help Ukraine defend itself against barbaric Russian attacks this winter, as part of Britain’s commitment to help Ukraine defend its freedom and sovereignty,” via a £100 million contribution to NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). “This follows the Prime Minister and Defence Secretary’s visits to Kyiv, where they heard from President Zelenskyy on the importance of additional support going into the winter,” says the UK Ministry of Defense press release.
Pistorius promised Patriot PAC-2 missiles and AIM-9 air-to-air missiles from Bundeswehr stocks. Berlin will also continue deliveries of IRIS-T air-defense systems and guided missiles and will fund several tens of thousands of long-range artillery rounds to be supplied through the UK.
