In order to combat “fraud,” on Sept. 22 Vice President JD Vance, as the leader of the White House “Task Force to Eliminate Fraud,” announced “one of the largest administrative purges” ever of healthcare rolls, according to the Wall Street Journal. An estimated 760,000 people will lose health coverage over charges that they were fraudulently enrolled, do not qualify for coverage, or are unauthorized for coverage.

An estimated 8 million Americans have already lost their health coverage since President Trump returned to the White House, and millions more are expected to lose health coverage by the end of this year, according to Protect Our Care. The July 2025 “One Big Beautiful Bill” cut federal health spending by about $1 trillion over the next 10 years, which will have caused 15 million people to lose health coverage by 2034, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
